Skills

The following is a list of skills used in the game, as well as a description of the general types of tasks they can be used for.

Unusual Tasks

Tasks not explicitly covered by a skill may be covered by whatever seems closest (attempting to tie a good knot would probably fall under Technology), or may be rolled at a -1 (or less) without an appropriate stunt (operating an ancient Sheikah aircraft isn’t adequately covered by anything, but would make a good stunt for Technology).

Note that appropriate aspects can also influence this; while the average Hylian couldn’t use Athletics to hold their breath, one with the Experienced Diver aspect probably could.

Racial Skills

Every race except for Hylian replaces one skill with another unique to them, representing that race’s unique strengths (and by the skill excluded, their unique weaknesses). While sometimes the racial skill can be used to cover some of the trappings of the replaced skill, in general they are not considered to have any talent at utilizing the replaced skill, and without a stunt, will usually consider it to be an unusual task, as explained above. The average Goron just isn’t capable of dodging attacks, and while Zora are remarkably athletic underwater, they can struggle to run, climb, and jump on land.

List of Skills

Acrobatics

Acrobatics covers all sorts of agile and flexible movement, whether rolling, cartwheeling, or gliding. Significantly, it is also used for dodging attacks in combat. Acrobatics stunts are usually focused on dodging in combat, or in particular focuses. Acrobatics increases a character’s Stamina, granting an additional box at every even bonus amount.

Rolling

Rolling is the Goron racial skill replacing Acrobatics. Rolling can be used to move quickly (especially downhill), attack with a rolling charge, and to disguise oneself as a rock. It increases a character’s Stamina, granting an additional box at every even bonus amount.

Alchemy

Alchemy is the skill of mixing and preparing ingredients, whether that’s cooking a meal or brewing a potion. Alchemy stunts allow you to cook unique meals or powerful potions.

Athletics

A measurement of physical potential, whether running, jumping, climbing, or swimming. Athletics stunts focus on specific forms of movement. Athletics increases a character’s Stamina, granting an additional box at every odd bonus amount.

Swimming

Swimming is the Zora racial skill, and replaces Athletics. It is used to swim quickly, swim against currents or even up waterfalls, to leap from the water, or to dodge attacks while underwater. It increases a character’s Stamina, granting an additional box at every odd bonus amount.

Command

Ability to push people to act the way you want them to. It’s coarse and manipulative, not a positive interaction. Command stunts let you push opponents into foolhardy action, draw aggression toward you, or scare enemies (assuming they can feel fear).

Presence

Presence is the Gerudo racial skill, and replaces Command. Presence deals with making an impression and representing yourself. Presence lets you impress those around you, draw attention to yourself, or pose a threat without saying a word.

Deception

Ability to lie and cheat convincingly and with aplomb. Deception stunts might improve your ability to tell a particular breed of lie or help invent false identities.

Fighting

Ability to excel at hand-to-hand combat, whether with weapons or fists. Fighting stunts include signature weapons and special techniques. Fighting increases a character’s Health, granting an additional box at every even bonus amount.

Husbandry

Ability to work with animals - taming them, riding them, and caring for them. Husbandry stunts allow you to specialize in specific tasks or animals.

Knowledge

Knowledge handles what a character knows, from everyday human knowledge and education to arcane knowledge that falls outside of the scope of the everyday. Knowledge stunts often support practical applications of your knowledge.

Might

Raw power and durability. Might stunts let you perform superhuman feats of strength, throw your weight around while wrestling, and shrug off physical consequences. Might increases a character’s Health, granting an additional box at every even odd amount.

Jutsu

Jutsu is the Sheikah racial skill, and replaces Might. Jutsu can be used to endure extreme heat or cold, to slow one’s breathing or hold one’s breath for extended periods of time, or to enhance one’s chi flow in preparation of extreme feats. It increases a character’s Magic, granting an additional box at every even bonus amount.

Perception

Ability to pick up details in the moment, spot trouble before it happens, and generally be perceptive. Perception stunts sharpen your senses, improve your reaction time, or make you harder to sneak up on.

Performance

Ability to entertain through any form, such as singing or dancing. Performance stunts usually grant new applications of your performing skills.

Rapport

Building connections with others and working together, as well as understanding where someone else is coming from. Where Command is manipulation, Rapport is sincerity, trust, and goodwill. Rapport stunts let you sway the crowd, improve relationships, or build contacts.

Shooting

All forms of ranged combat, whether crossbows, throwing knives, or bow and arrow. Shoot stunts let you make called shots and teach you secret techniques.

Skullduggery

Staying unseen or unheard and escaping when you need to hide, as well as bypassing locks and picking pockets. Skullduggery stunts let you vanish in plain sight, blend into crowds, or advance through shadows unseen.

Technology

Ability to make or break machinery, build contraptions, and pull off MacGyver-esque feats of ingenuity. Technology stunts let you have the gizmo on hand, give bonuses to building and breaking things, and provide justification for using Technology in place of other skillsunder certain circumstances.

Willpower

Mental fortitude, the ability to overcome temptation and to withstand trauma. Willpower stunts let you ignore mental consequences, withstand the mental agony of strange powers, and hold steady against enemies who provoke you. It increases a character’s Magic, granting an additional box at every odd bonus amount.

Pride

Pride is the Rito racial skill, and replaces Willpower. Pride represents stubbornness and self-assurance, and can be used to insist upon one’s honor, to challenge a rival, or to endure mockery or abuse. It increases a character’s Magic, granting an additional box at every odd bonus amount.
