The Dwarves of the Mror Holds are a hardy folk, stout and strong. But they do not know their history. Their true origins and records of their people have been lost to the ages. Their history survives in story and legend, told by talespinners. Stories of heroes and villains evoke great emotion, but the details vary depending on who tells them.

Some say the Dwarves come from the mountains themselves, hewn from the stone by Onatar himself, while others say they come from the Frostfell, or even Risia the Plain of Ice. But while the details are shrouded in mystery, the broad strokes are established fact: the Dwarves came to Khorvaire and established a great civilization deep below the mountains, called Sol Udar, or the Realm Below.

Once the kingdom of Galifar was established, there was no longer a need for a strong military, so the Dwarves utilized their industriousness and rich natural resources and became wealthy from trade. There were struggles with the Jorash'tar orcs, the Lhazaar princes, and even other Dwarf clans, but by and large, it was an Era of peace and prosperity.
