Aspects Are Always True

You can invoke aspects for a bonus to a roll and compel them to create a complication. But even when those aren’t in play, aspects still affect the narrative. When you have that monstrosity Pinned Under a Boulder

Character Aspects

Characters begin play with five aspects, plus two additional party aspects. A description of the types of aspects are given below.

Remember that your aspects can (and arguably should!) change occasionally. Feel free to set goals than can be achieved or have troubles that can be resolved - it just means you’ll have to find another once it’s dealt with!

Each player takes on the role of one of the heroes of your story, controlling all their actions. You get to build the character you want to see in the world. Keep in mind that Fate characters are competent, dramatic, and willing to engage with the adventures ahead.

Extras

Extras are additional abilities that function using their own costs and rules. Each extra has its own cost and requirements which can vary wildly, and each one explains the additional options and abilities that it grants. There is no limit to the number of extras a character can have, so long as they are able to pay the cost for each of them; however, because each extra usually introduces its own complications and subsystems, it is highly recommended for players not to begin with more th…

Items and Equipment

Every item of equipment your character owns reduces your maximum 💎 by one. A new character can begin play with up to two pieces of equipment, with basic equipment not counting against that limit.

Consumables do not reduce your maximum 💎, but instead require you to check a 💎 in order to use them. A new character begins play with three consumables, less one for every piece of equipment they have. (Do not count basic equipment.)

Skills

The following is a list of skills used in the game, as well as a description of the general types of tasks they can be used for.

Unusual Tasks

Tasks not explicitly covered by a skill may be covered by whatever seems closest (attempting to tie a good knot would probably fall under Technology), or may be rolled at a -1 (or less) without an appropriate stunt (operating an ancient Sheikah aircraft isn’t adequately covered by anything, but would make a good stunt for Technology).

Stress

Player characters have four stress bars, each used differently: Health, Stamina, Magic, and Wallet.

Health stress represents your bodily integrity and resistance to injury. You take Health stress when enemies hit you in combat.

Stunts

While every character has access to all the skills—even if they are Mediocre (+0) at most of them—your character has some unique stunts. Stunts are the cool techniques, tricks, or bits of equipment that make your character unique and interesting. Where skills are about a character’s broad competencies, stunts are about specific areas of excellence; most of them give you a bonus in particular circumstances or let you do something that other characters simply can’t.
